Community Quilts from Ray

I’ve had a few emails from several people who are working to ease the lives of others through their community quilt work.  I just love putting these blog posts together and seeing the good in the world.

I wanted to share with you the beautiful tops that Joann C. in CA sent to me. Big surprise when I picked up today’s mail.

* This square in a square quilt has the cutest sock monkey prints. They are adorable. Love the bright, fresh colors. I am going to need to do some digging as I think I have some sock monkey fabric in the stash to use for backing. Won’t that be cute! It measures 41 x 52.

* This quilt is made out of charm squares with one white corner and then pieced to make a diamond in the center of the blocks. Beautiful layout. Love the wide red border. It gives me spring fever. It measures 49 x 59.

* This quilt looks like a trellis with flowers blooming in the spring. Definitely got spring fever. Awesome prints. It measures 43 x 43.

* I am making a guess that this top is made with Kaffe prints. They are always so rich and bold and the white background really sets the colors off. Love the HST border. It is ideal for a baby quilt at 36 x 42.

* I think this top is also made from Kaffe prints, WOW!!  The colors just reach out and grab you. It measures 41 x 52.

* Now for a change of pace with this quilt. These must be reproduction fabrics and are so warm. I have no idea as to the pattern but it definitely shows off the fabrics well. It measures 42 x 50.

*  We had spring and now we are ready for fall with this black and orange quilt. There are even some pumpkin fabrics in it. Love the pattern in this one and do not know the name. It measures 56 x 65.

* Time for some summer fun with this star quilt. Love all the bright summery colors in the fabrics in this one. It is a big quilt at 72 x 84.”

I have been working my way through emails and I found this one from Karen.

She writes:“Here is the last of the quilt tops, blocks and pieces you sent me.  These tumbler blocks were sent by Roxanne.  Janet from my quilting guild put them all together and it ended up being 47X57.

I quilted it with an edge to edge meander.  Backing and binding fabric from my stash.

This backing is some of the 108″ wide I got from Fabrics.com that was less than $5 a yard.  This quilt will go to Stability First here in Martinsville, IN.  There is a family shelter and a women’s shelter that are part of this program.”

Another email I unearthed came from Marianne that I wanted to share…

She writes:
Good morning Jo!

I so enjoy reading your blogs!  You are such an encouragement with all the organizing and shipping of fabric and quilt tops around the US that can be turned into comfort and blessings for others.  Taking note of what an overwhelming response you are getting is an offer further below.

First, I just wanted to pass along our quilters group comfort quilt display. Isn’t the church a lovely display venue! We annually show comfort quilts in the fall made throughout the year as part of a local fundraiser for an emergency medical helicopter in Southern Alberta called HALO that serves our rural area. We raffle off one of the quilts and the money raised goes to HALO.  The remaining quilts are then donated to Medicine Hat Victims Assistance and our local hospital. We were able to donate over 60 this year! (There are a couple displayed over the balcony that were personal quilts and weren’t part of the raffle. 😉)

Wasn’t that a fun read.  I love seeing all the good!!  Thanks for sharing the generosity!!  It encourages all of us to be more giving too!!
