I Lost My Mom to Breast Cancer… This October, Please Join Me and #MoveFor Pink!
Many women in our community have been impacted by breast cancer. Some of us have faced cancer directly. Others, including myself, have lost someone close to us.
With so much at stake, it’s no surprise that ridding the world of cancer has been a global priority for decades. In fact, the fight has been so long that even the saying “curing cancer” has become a cliché… a description of something so big, so challenging, that it might as well be impossible.
My message, today, is simple… we can’t give up! We can beat cancer, but, our victory won’t come from a single burst or inspiration or scientific breakthrough; it will come through the systematic and continuous application of time, effort and money.
Simply put, the fight against cancer isn’t a sprint. It is a marathon. And, the only way to win this particular race is step-by-step.
This is why I am so happy that companies like Easy Spirit, who sponsored this article, are stepping up to keep the fight against cancer moving forward.
As you know, I’m already a fan of Easy Spirit’s comfortable footwear and the company’s support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month is just one more reason that I respect and appreciate them.
So, today, I’ll share a new way that you can support breast cancer research, while giving your feet the comfort and style that they deserve.
But, first, I would like to share a few words about my own experience with breast cancer.
My Personal Experience with Breast Cancer
Like many women, I have my own private cancer story. You see, my mom died of breast cancer when she was only 50-years-old.
Her death left my brothers and me without a mother at a critical time in our lives, but, more tragically, it robbed this wonderful lady of the opportunity to see her grandchildren born, to live the long and happy life that she deserved.
Though I am now in my 70s, I still hold a daughter’s love in my heart. I miss my mom’s kindness and strength. I miss her honesty and integrity. And, I miss her hugs.
We all have causes that we believe in and breast cancer research is one of mine… not just because I lost my mom to cancer, but, because I know how the millions of people across the world who are impacted, directly or indirectly, by this disease feel.
I want to help. And, there are more ways than ever to walk together towards a cure.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month… Let’s Join the Fight!
The fight against breast cancer is ongoing. Every day, scientists, doctors, nurses and researchers race against time as they search for a cure.
But, like any cause, there are certain times of the year when everything is brought into focus. Some of these dates are personal – like my mom’s birthday. Others are more broadly applicable, like Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
This October, I have one simple message for you regarding breast cancer. Let’s not give up. This is a fight that we can win… if we all walk together.
Lace-Up Your Pink Shoes and Support Cancer Research
Easy Spirit has always been one of my favorite footwear brands. Every time I put on a pair of their shoes, I feel like I am walking on a cloud. But, this month, I am delighted to be able to talk about one way that they are making the world a better place.
This October, in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Easy Spirit is teaming up with the Fashion Footwear Association of New York (FFANY). Formed 25-years-ago, this charity has already raised more than $57-million for breast cancer research. And with Easy Spirit’s support it is poised to do even more!
For the entire month of October, Easy Spirit is donating 15% of the proceeds from the sale of their beautiful Move for Pink Romy Sneaker to FFANY Shoes on Sale.
